Hello 👋 I’m Bobbie Kay, Author of Solid Ground

About Solid Ground

Solid Ground is a newsletter for women who are living life largely on their own and want to feel steady while doing it.It is for single women over 50 who are navigating this season without a partner to lean on, without a prescribed script, and often without much visible support. Women who are capable, thoughtful, and tired of pretending they are unfazed by the weight of it all. This is not a place for hustle, reinvention hype, or “start over” slogans. It is a place to find your footing.

Why Solid Ground Exists

When you live alone and age forward, the questions change. How do I take care of myself without burning out.
How do I make decisions when I am the only one deciding.
How do I plan for the future without fear.
How do I simplify life so it feels manageable, not heavy.Solid Ground exists to meet those questions with clarity and steadiness. Not urgency. Not pressure. Not performance.

What You’ll Find Here

Each issue of Solid Ground has two layers. The grounding layer names what feels unsteady.
It offers reflection, perspective, and language for experiences that often go unnamed. This is the emotional anchor. The part that says, you are not imagining this, and you are not alone in it.The steadying layer offers something practical.
A clear explanation. A simple system. A checklist. A way to think about a real-life problem with less anxiety. This is the part that helps life feel more navigable.Together, these layers create a sense of footing.

The Topics We Cover

Solid Ground weaves together several closely related areas of life, because in reality, they are inseparable.

  • Living alone, well. Safety, preparation, and systems that support independence without fear.

  • Quiet money. Calm, plain-language thinking about finances, planning, and decision-making when you are on your own.

  • Identity after 50. Letting go of old roles, redefining purpose, and choosing what matters now.

  • Aging with steadiness. Mobility, energy, and independence, without wellness trends or optimization culture.

  • Simplicity and mental load. Reducing decision fatigue and designing life to hold you, not drain you.

These topics are not treated as problems to fix. They are treated as realities to meet with respect.

What Solid Ground Is Not

Solid Ground is not self-help.
It is not therapy.
It is not a productivity system.
It is not a space for toxic positivity or reinvention pressure. There are no ten-step transformations here. No constant call to “do more” or “be better.”The work here is quieter than that.

Who This Is For

Solid Ground is for women who are capable, thoughtful, and living solo in this chapter of life.Women who want to:

  • Feel less anxious about the future

  • Make clearer decisions with less mental weight

  • Live independently without feeling abandoned by the narrative

  • Age forward with dignity and steadiness

If you are looking for calm, clarity, and a place to land, you are in the right place.

A Note on the Name

Solid Ground is not about having everything figured out.It is about having enough stability to stand, to breathe, and to move forward without rushing.Sometimes onward is not a leap.
Sometimes it is simply finding your footing. That is what this space is for.

Onward,
Bobbie Kay
